ASMAC 2nd Vice President Jeff Kellem hosted an ASMAC Social Mixer—composer, orchestrator, arranger hang—on Friday, 25 April 2025. We met at Three Sisters Coffee & Tea in Burbank, California, USA from 10am to 12pm PDT. Thanks to owner Kristen Sagona for reserving an area for us. Seven of the eight composers being featured at the Helix Collective “Cue Connection” Concert at Bandrika Studios on Saturday, 26 April 2025, were able to attend. The eighth had a deadline to meet so they could attend Saturday’s concert.
More than 25 people showed up. Lively conversations throughout. Good to hear about people’s projects, hear their experiences with ASMAC and interest in helping out in the future. Some of the 25 who had registered were unable to attend, but we also had others who showed us without letting us know ahead of time. ASMAC President Gayle Levant and board member Chuck Fernandez joined us, along with a surprise visit from Brent Fischer.
Glad the selected composers for the concert could connect and share about their work before the concert. The concert will be livestreamed, too.
Afterwards, about 12 of us headed next door to Tony’s Darts Away. Good food and good people that run the place. Vegan and non-vegan options. People kept chatting until after 3pm.
Glad to see the turnout and expressed interest for future mixers, including from filmmakers who were in the café chatting to share with their composer friends.
Let us know if you have suggested locations and dates/times for future gatherings. We will plan more of these in addition to in-person luncheons and workshops. We’ll announce a June luncheon date, soon.
