Congratulations to everyone on the most spectacular Flight 584 Big Band rehearsal night and ASMAC Hang on Wednesday, 6 August 2025, at the Mayflower Club in North Hollywood! It was inspiring to conduct the premiere of my arrangements celebrating 90 Years of 20th Century Studios and Broadway’s New Musical with Grammy and Emmy award-winning vocal artist LC Powell and the Flight 584 Big Band and perform as violin soloist with the band in the Flight 584 Tango composed by our ASMAC Vice President Milton Nelson!
Our very own ASMAC President Gayle Levant welcomed everyone, the legendary John Mitchell shared his warmth and joy throughout the evening, and Milton and Evita Wagner kindly hosted our ASMAC pizza dinner and social mixer!
It was very special to have dinner and catch-up with our fabulous ASMAC family, Inception family, and Burbank friends, and we welcomed the brilliant composer Anne Trytko into our ASMAC family! It is a pleasure to collaborate with everyone!
Watch the YouTube playlist of pieces Jonathan either arranged or played on with the Flight 584 Big Band rehearsal night read-downs:
- Hello, Dolly! by Jerry Herman, arranged & conducted by Jonathan Allentoff, with vocal artist LC Powell.
- A Sentimental Person by Will Aronson & Hue Park, arranged & conducted by Jonathan Allentoff, with vocal artist LC Powell
- Flight 584 Tango by Milton Nelson with violin soloist Jonathan Allentoff.
LC Powell also sang a few fun charts from her book:
- I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For by U2, arranged by Richie “LaBamba” Rosenberg. Here’s a video of a past performance of that chart with the LaBamba-Healy Big Band, conducted by Scott Healy.
- Almost Like Being In Love arranged by Nelson Riddle.
- The Best is Yet to Come, a Quincy Jones and John Clayton hybrid mashed up by LC.
Rick Hils led his adaptation and arrangement of Things are Gettin’ Better by Julian Adderley (based on the Eddie Jefferson version).
Hope to see you at the next ASMAC Hang Wednesday, 3 Sep 2025, 7–10pm!
