Read part 1.
As was discussed in Part I, Frank Comstock was one of Ray Heindorf’s favorite arrangers. Here are some clips from the films he worked on.
- With Plenty of Money and You from She’s Working Her Way Through College (1952) — Vocal by Bonnie Lou Williams (IMDb, discogs) dubbing for Virginia Mayo
- From She’s Back in Broadway — I’ll Take You.
- So This is Love (1953)
- Ray Bolger solo in April in Paris (1953)
- From The Helen Morgan Story (1957), this is The Man I Love — Ann Blyth was dubbed by Gogi Grant.
In a further part, I feature other films Comstock worked on in the 1960s.
Comstock made eight albums with the Hi-Lo’s, among the finest vocal group recordings ever made. Choosing just a few tracks is hard, but someone has to do it.
- Surrey with the Fringe on Top
- Birth of the Blues
- Tenderly
- My Sugar is so Refined
- Don’cha Go ‘Way Mad — with Rosemary Clooney
- Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries
Comstock made two albums with Frankie Laine. Below are a couple songs from each:
Here is the entire album with Alan Copeland, better known as a songwriter and leader of vocal groups.
We continue in Part III with his own albums, and his TV work.
