A Conversation with composer Lolita Ritmanis and orchestrator Larry Rench


Award-winning composer Lolita Ritmanis and orchestrator Larry Rench will present a step-by-step process of composing, prepping, and recording the 70-minute symphonic and choral score for Blizzard of Souls. Filmed entirely in Latvia, the score was also to be recorded in Latvia with over 100 musicians of the country’s symphony orchestra and their award-winning State choir.


Lolita Ritmanis is an Emmy Award winning and 10-time Emmy Award nominated composer. For her symphonic score to the Box office hit Blizzard of Souls she won the Alex North Award and the Hollywood Music in Media Award (HMMA), was nominated for the World Soundtrack Award and is on the shortlist for an Academy Award nomination. Lolita is one of the founders of the Alliance for Women Film Composers, serving as president from 2016-2018. Career highlights include the Lincoln Center premiere of her compositions for "Women Warriors: The Voices of Change," Christmas in Rome for Hallmark, Wild DaZe (featuring Jane Goodall) and Flip the Script (starring Lake Bell). Other credits include her primetime Emmy nominated theme for Justice League: The Animated Series and work on fan favorite productions alongside fellow Dynamic Music Partners Michael McCuistion and Kristopher Carter on the Emmy Award winning series Batman Beyond, Teen Titans, Ben 10 and The Killing Joke (starring Mark Hamill) among others. They are currently scoring the Warner Bros. series Young Justice, available on HBO Max.



Larry Rench is an orchestrator who has worked on hundreds of films, television shows, video games, and concerts over the last 30 years. Some of the highlights of his career include orchestrating for Shirley Walker (Final Destination 1-3), Hans Zimmer (Backdraft), Michael Kamen (X-Men), and John Williams (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone). More recent highlights include Skyscraper for Steve Jablonsky, The House with a Clock in Its Walls for Nathan Barr, and Justice League vs the Fatal Five for Kristopher Carter, Michael McCuistion, and Lolita Ritmanis. Larry traveled to Riga, Latvia with Lolita and engineer Mark Mattson for the recording of the score for Blizzard of Souls, serving as an integral part of the team, orchestrating and consulting in the booth.
