Big Band Basics Master Class Writing for Big Band with Kim Richmond
Join composer of jazz and classical works, and past President of ASMAC, Kim Richmond for a Master Class on Big Band Basics.
Kim will provide a study of the make-up of a large jazz band and what is recommended in terms of style, weight (or transparency), techniques and voicings. The role of each section, trumpets, trombones, saxophones and rhythm sections will be demonstrated with audio examples of real instruments (not midi or samples).
Kim explains his process of composition and arranging and relates some voicing rules. The event will provide a guide for the young composer, but also will benefit seasoned writers for other genres.
