David Blumberg Prize - 1 year free attendance to ASMAC Master Classes

To apply, you must be a current student, studying arranging and music composition in a music school, college, conservatory, university, or privately.
You do NOT need to be a student member of ASMAC.

Complete the online application or mail-in application and submit it no later than June 1st, 2022 with:

  • A short arrangement of an original or standard. This may be written for any instrumentation. Your submission must be in the form of a musical score (concert or transposed). In addition, we encourage you to attach a recording or demo of your submission.
  • A copy of your student identification card.
  • A one-page statement of your career goals and aspirations.
  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member and/or professional composer or arranger who is familiar with your work.

This competition awardee will be announced and presented at the Master Class, Webinar, or Big Band Hang closest to the conclusion of the competition, at the discretion of the ASMAC executive committee.

RAY CHARLES AND JON CHARLES COMPETITION FOR MUSIC AND VOCAL ARRANGING

Ray Charles and Jon Charles Competition for Music and Vocal Arranging – US $1,000 Prize

  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member and/or professional composer or arranger who is familiar with your work.

Entries will be judged by a 5 member ASMAC panel, and announced in August 2022.

iJAZZ MUSIC BIG BAND COMPOSITION AND ARRANGING COMPETITION

Award Category 1 - Easy-Medium (Grade 1-3)
1st prize: $500 (option to publish with iJazz)

Award Category 2 - Advanced (Grade 4+)

iJazz Music publishing is generously supporting two big band composing and arranging awards for ASMAC student members with the option of publication.

iJazz Music is a non-profit jazz music publishing company increasing the visibility of its composers and arrangers, assisting Jazz Education Abroad in presenting these festivals and workshops.

  • An original composition (or arrangement of public domain material) arranged for Standard Big Band Instrumentation ( 5-4-4-4 - saxes-trumpets-trombones-rhythm) with optional doubles. The maximum duration must not exceed 6 minutes for category 1 (Easy-Medium), or 8 minutes for category 2 (Advanced). Your submission must be in the form of a musical score. In addition, a recording or demo of your submission is required.
  • A copy of your student identification card.
  • A one-page statement of your career goals and aspirations.
  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member and/or professional composer or arranger who is familiar with your work.

Winners will be announced mid-October 2022.

CHAMBER ENSEMBLE COMPOSITION COMPETITION

ASMAC is proud to support a competition award for original composition arranged for a chamber music ensemble of any size.

There is no age limit.
The deadline for submission is September 1, 2022
To apply, you must be a current student, studying arranging and music composition in a music school, college, conservatory, university, or privately. You must also be an ASMAC student member in good standing.

Complete the online application or mail-in application and submit it no later than September 1st, 2022 with:

  • An original composition (or arrangement of public domain material) for a chamber ensemble of any instrumentation. The maximum duration must not exceed 8 minutes. Your submission must be in the form of a musical score. In addition, a recording or demo of your submission is required.
