ASMAC celebrates the golden music arranging contributions of
Jimmie Haskell (1926 – 2016). Arranger for over 135 Gold and Platinum albums for countless artists and bands including Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Neil Diamond, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Steely Dan, Billy Joel, Everly Brothers, Chicago, Ambrosia, Ricky Nelson, Blondie, Grass Roots, Bobbie Gentry, Doris Day, Sheryl Crow, to name a few. Haskell was a master of being invited to add his touch and arranging skills to already existing tracks and make them sound like cohesive commercial recordings.
This event explores Jimmie’s golden arranging techniques including pads, instrumental hooks, counter-lines, underlining the melody line, and reverting back to accompaniment and word painting; featuring interviews with Jimmie Haskell conducted by Dr. Richard Niles, author of The Invisible Artist.
Jimmie Haskell: “A good arrangement enhances the song, makes you want to listen to it again, and most importantly makes you want to buy the record.”
