Ballads to Bossa: Arranging Across Different Styles, Part 2
On Saturday, 30 April 2016, veteran composer, arranger, conductor and producer Jorge Calandrelli was featured at the ASMAC Masterclass. Entitled “From Ballads to Bossa.” Watch part 1 here.

This 3-hour presentation opened with an 8-minute musical overview of some of the amazing performers that Calandrelli has worked with over the years in his various roles. The class consisted of the discussion of 10 arrangements by Calandrelli, covering a broad spectrum. Some scores were viewed on the giant screen while the recorded music played vocals by Calandrelli’s clients, including Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald and Placido Domingo, and instrumentalists Arturo Sandoval, Eddie Daniels, and Chris Botti.
Calandrelli spoke about his composing and arranging process and a great variety of other subjects. His music enraptured his audience, and at the conclusion he received a standing ovation.
ASMAC Board member Sylvester Rivers produced and moderated the Master Class, and Kim Richmond handled the technical preparation.
