ALAN & MARILYN BERGMAN – PRESIDENT’S AWARD
Nominated for sixteen Academy Awards and having won three Oscars and two Grammys, one would be hard pressed to find someone as deserving of ASMAC’S President’s Award than the songwriting team of Alan & Marilyn Bergman. The Bergmans were the first songwriters ever to be nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Song out of the five nominated songs. These nominations were for “How Do You Keep The Music Playing?” from “Best Friends;” “It Might Be You,” from “Tootsie;” and “If We Were In Love,” from “Yes, Giorgio.” They then did it again with three nominations from the movie, “Yentl.” Alan & Marilyn Bergman have been honored for their talent by being inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. Some of their most famous lyrics include, “Papa, Can You Hear Me?” performed by Barbra Streisand in Yentl, “The Man Who Loved Women,” composed by Henry Mancini and “In The Heat Of The Night,” composed by Quincy Jones.
