Creating an Industrial Worthy of Maisel

Like everything to do with the Emmy-Winning The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, when the series’ creators decided to set an episode of the final season in the wild world of Industrials, they weren’t going to do it half way. This meant Composers Curtis Moore & Thomas Mizer with essential partner Orchestrator David Chase had to write, arrange, rehearse, record, and help film three tonally different musicals with eight original songs, and featuring hundreds of musicians and performers—all on a fast-tracked television timeline.

Through the prism of this single episode, Moore, Mizer, and Chase will use scores, stems, and final cuts to highlight the challenges and rewards of the TV music process. From script-change dictated orchestrations to on the fly (and on set) song rewrites, from golden age musical inspirations to final mix choices in the editing room, it will be a deep dive into the details that make Maisel sing.
